Degraded performance for the Mica, at both encounter, and even more for the 2nd.

The main point was that the news couldn't be "more" official.

The question is were the AMRAAMs degraded as well? Usually that's the case during many exercises.

It's always the case, for all the good reasons, and for everybody.

The U.S.-made Boeing (BA.N) F18 was runner-up in the report, and France's Dassault Aviation (AVMD.PA) placed last with its Rafale jet.

Hello Mr.Lake

Can president LULA ignore this and go for the RAFALE against the wishes of his army ?

Never ignore the political dimension, it can explain the most stupid decisions.

LULA has already sealed a big contract with the French last year ..Nuclear Sub technology ,50 Eurocopters , so actually he is under no obligation to buy the RAFALE ..SARKOZY will have to accept this.

Of course, you didn't say this to imply that strategy and a support for a seat at the UN council is a stupid decision...

Nothing official yet.
Hervé Morin (French MoD) said (on the radio) that the brasilian newspaper was spreading a mere rumor and that apparently it isn't aware of the whole story. As the Brasilian MoD didn't comment or confirm the news, i guess it's reasonable to accept the Morin's point of view until the brasilian MoD confirms the news.
By the way, Morin also said that Rafale was ranked first in one of the current competitions, maybe in Switzerland, but he was quite unclear, so we don't really know what he was talking about...

Sorry, i know, Brazil and Rafale export prospect aren't the topic.

The importance of political support for Brazil's aspirations - eg for a permanent seat on the UNSC, may explain the sudden effort (towards the end of last year) when Saab suddenly started to make a big deal about UK involvement in Gripen NG, and when HMG launched a brief 'charm offensive' in Brazil's direction, including a meeting between Gordon Brown and Lula.

There's a huge weight of evidence (albeit largely anecdotal) to support the idea that while Rafale is favoured by Lula and Jobim, it was not placed first by the FAB. I'd personally be surprised if Rafale was placed behind Super Hornet in this competition, though there is reportedly some deep-seated dissatisfaction with support for the Mirage III and with the whole Eurocopter deal, locally.

I remain convinced that the strength of the existing political leadership's commitment to Rafale means that it will win in Brazil, regardless of air force and industry preferences.
